Varyag sports park rink in Bryansk: a roofed 56 by 26 metre ice sheet that runs in any weather
The rink at the Varyag sports park in Bryansk has a 56 by 26 metre sheet of ice. A roof keeps rain and snow off it, while fresh air still reaches skaters through the whole session. Refrigeration units keep the ice in condition, so the operator says the rink can work even when it is 15 degrees above zero outside.
The operator says the rink works every day whatever the weather. Skaters use an access card that is bought at the box office, and the rink has sound and light equipment and a warm changing room. Children can join the Varyag children's hockey school, and the whole rink can be booked for a team or an event.
At the time of writing the rink page carries a banner saying the season is closed until October, and it has not yet posted a session timetable, so check the page before you travel. A code of conduct for skaters is among the documents on the page, and the weekly opening pattern is posted there too.
