A municipal-owned ice hall in Steindorf that grew out of a club's idealism in 1986
For the latest skating dates, check the rink’s official information.
The Ossiacher See Halle began as an open-air artificial rink. In 1986 the Eissportclub Steindorf built, with a great deal of idealism, what was then only the third artificial ice rink in Carinthia, and for many years the club held a leading role in Carinthian ice hockey and figure skating.
The covered hall went up in stages from 1993, starting with the concrete slabs for the ice, the new boards and the technical rooms, with the dressing-room and sanitary wing following three years later. In 2002 the state of Carinthia confirmed the funding, and the hall opened that October to a design by the architect Günther Domenig, whose roof leaves the view of the lake almost unobstructed.
Today a refrigeration plant installed in 2020 keeps the ice for ESC Steindorf, the home club, and the municipality of Steindorf holds more than 75 percent of the operating company. Public skating shares the ice with club training, school skating, figure skating and an ice disco.
